Pontevedra is basically an agricultural town with sugarcane as primary crop. It is located in the middle southwestern part of the province along Negros Occidental’s western shoreline. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of San Enrique and the city of La Carlota. On the west lies the municipality of La Castellana while on the south, Hinigaran.
The municipality’s land area is 62% relatively flat and 38% rugged, hilly and rolling. The more elevated section is situated in the so-called Legua Communal Area comprising Brgy. Burgos, Gomez, Buenavista Riza and Mabini. Zamora is the outermost barangay bordering with La Castellana some 30 kilometers away from the Poblacion.
The municipality of Pontevedra is located at the middle south western part of the provinces along the between shoreline of Negros Island. It is bounded on the north by San Enrique and La Carlota City, on the east by the La Castellana, on the west by Guimaras Strait and on the south by Hinigaran. It is 40 kms. away from Bacolod, the capital town of the province. It has 15 rural and 5 urban barangays.
